The existing late-Victorian home has been transformed by rearranging and extending the ground floor area, to create a highly responsive, flexible, and playful vaulted extension.
The existing ground floor layout was typical of its age, with the kitchen/dining area cut-off from the delightful garden by the bathroom, which itself is an amalgamation of a past coal shed or external toilet. The layout left the kitchen cold and gloomy, with poor access to the garden, and generally unsuitable for socialising which we enjoy.
The solution was to relocate the bathroom to the middle of the house, with a generous area created for walk-in shower, separate jacuzzi bath, finished with high quality materials and colour-changing LED lighting to create a bathroom of ‘spa quality’ (particularly important for my partner who is a nurse).
The new mono-pitched extension creates an exciting internally-vaulted kitchen and dining space, while keeping the scale and impact of the extension as low as possible for our neighbours.
The triple-glazed sliding door system plus rooflight above make the most of the daylight, views, and access to the mature garden.
Exposing the construction and adding colour, the interior is comfortable yet exciting. Integrating playful LED lighting that suits both daily use and entertaining allows the space to easily change character.

“We continuously pinch ourselves to remind us this is our home. The space works so well for our family, for entertaining, and changes so much with the seasons. We love it”
