Courtyard is an extension proposal for clients who are enthusiasts for modern design, but who are in need of improvements for natural light into the property, and with better connections to the garden.
The existing home is a ‘cottage’ style of property which was not well-suited to modern additions. The rear of the property was also east-facing, and received no direct daylight after midday.
The new family space is proposed as a separate wing, creating an external courtyard between the new and original parts of the house, and can follow a different form and expression to the main house which is to be extensively upgraded.
Integrated fitted storage for utilities and coats allows the new main entrance lobby area to connect the new kitchen and dining area, with the play room and living room within the main house.
